Welcome back and supplies

Greetings!

We are looking forward to teaching your child again when they return next week as eighth graders. It promises to be an incredible adventure, filled with activities and experiences aimed at preparing every student for high school and beyond. This letter is intended to help your son or daughter be successful in the coming year.

What does this look like for us?  We will maintain high expectations in our learning community.  We expect each student to do their best work all the time.  It doesn’t mean everybody has to be perfect.  It does mean that we want everybody to demonstrate the effort needed to progress to the best of their ability.

What does this look like for you?  With greater emphasis on independent learning, we ask parents to help their child by not giving them the answers.  Instead, hold back, and ask leading questions that push your child to think for him or herself.  We realize this will not occur overnight, but we will be working on this in the classroom and ask for your support at home.  Working with your child to develop a schedule to complete his/her assignments every night will also help.  Please continue to refer to the daily blog for current information and assignments.  If your email address has changed, please let Ms. Westbrook know your new contact information.

What does this look like for your child?  He or she should come to school prepared to learn, both physically and mentally.  Getting a good night sleep is vital as is proper nutrition.  In addition to completing the daily assignments, your child should remember to bring a pencil and his/her agenda to every class.  These steps, combined with a positive attitude and consistent motivation will help ensure academic success.

Below are a few items which are a "suggested" school supply list for this coming school year.
                * 3-ring binders - two 2” works well for two subjects per binder or one 1” binder per subject
(some students use folders or another organizational system - we are flexible as long as it works!)
* pencils, pencils, pencils, pencils, pencils (enough to get through the year)
* zippered pencil bag for binder
* erasers (latex free)
* water bottle
                * 2+ large boxes of tissues (to share)
* Clorox wipes (to share)

        We are looking forward to continuing to work with your son or daughter.  We hope to catch up with you at SATEC’s Open House night and/or parent-teacher conferences.  Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Westbrook & Mr. Peterson
