April 5th, 2018

Dear Parents /Guardians of 8th grade students,

We have good news! While it won’t be official until after approval from the superintendent, we are hopeful that our 2018 class trip will be to Montreal. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to raise money for our trip.

On Friday, June 8th, students will arrive at SATEC, as usual, and depart for Montreal at approximately 8:30 a.m. In the past, we have visited the Biodome, the Planetarium, the Olympic Tower, the Underground City (underground mall), and Mont Royal. Our plans, including the date, are subject to change over the next month, as we iron out the details. We anticipate visiting two or three sites, and much depends on ticket prices and event times. We will return to SATEC that same evening, and students will need to be picked up by a parent/guardian at SATEC. We will follow up with a detailed itinerary at a later date, but wanted to make sure that you all were aware of our plans early on.

To travel across the border, proper documentation will be necessary.  Students will need written permission from both parents (we will be providing you with a form), their school ID card, and a copy of their birth certificate. In an effort to keep our student to adult ratios low, we will also be in need of parent volunteers to chaperone the trip. All parent chaperones need to pass SATEC’s background check each year that they chaperone a SATEC field trip. If you are interested in joining us, please fill out the background check paperwork with Kathy Sargent as soon as possible.  In addition, parent chaperones will be required to ride the bus with us to and from Montreal and will be expected to pay at least a portion of the entry fees. Proper documentation (either an enhanced driver's license or passport) will also be needed.  In the event that we have more volunteers than openings, we will draw names at random.

We are very excited about this trip and want to commend those who worked so hard to fundraise for this incredible opportunity. As you can imagine, a trip of this magnitude for so many people is very expensive. Without the commitment and hard work of our parents and students, it would not have been possible.

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,
The 8th Grade Team
